Avoiding exhaust stains

What is the issue?
Water-cooled inboard engines inject cooling water into the exhaust pipe, which cools the exhaust and muffles engine noise. The exhaust then pushes the water out the exhaust pipe. This is known as a wet exhaust system. The problem is that black exhaust stains tend to build up beneath the exhaust outlet.

Why address this?
The exhaust stains look bad and it takes significant elbow grease to remove it each season.

How to address this?
A simple way to reducing staining is to invest in an exhaust outlet that has an extended pipe or to have one added to the existing system. The extended pipe carries the exhaust out and away from the gel coat dramatically reducing the build up.
