Protecting the rudder and tiller when leaving the vessel unattended

Be the first to comment

What is the issue?
The rudder and tiller will move around on the boat when the vessel is left unattended.

Why address this?
The tiller varnish or paintwork will very quickly get damaged banging about in the cockpit and the rudder will be subject to wear and damage.

How to address this?
Always solidly belay the rudder before leaving the vessel as presented in figure 1.

With thanks to:
Michael Harpur, Yacht Obsession.
