Keeping doused jibs and spinnakers aboard

Be the first to comment

What is the issue?
Doused jibs and spinnakers can be a challenge to keep aboard, especially if conditions are boisterous.

Why address this?
Loosing a sail overboard during a race can drop a vessel back sever places. Dropping a sail in whilst cruising also is an annoyance and anything that makes life more challenging on the bow is to be avoided.

How to address this?
Use bow netting as presented in figure 1 to keep the sails aboard.

Bow netting offers very little windage to impair performance. However if this is a concern, half netting is better than none.
