Stronger streams are indicated by heavier or longer arrows, and as mentioned above, red arrows flagging rates of 3 knots and above. Numerals represent [mean neap, mean spring] rates in tenths of a knot. For example the numbers 12,23 would indicate a mean neap of 1.2 knots and a mean spring of 2.3 knots.

The River Beaulieu has a double tide. The flood takes 6 ½ hours on Springs 7 ¼ hours on Neaps. Then after a gentle fall there is a second high tide some 2 hours later. This is followed by a period of slack water for about an hour. The ebb sets in and low water is reached in just 2½ to 3½ hours.

Today: Another largely sunny and very hot day is expected. Although the sunshine is likely to turn a little hazy through the day, as some higher cloud spreads north. Staying dry, although some fair weather cloud perhaps building during the afternoon. Maximum Temperature 35C.
Tonight: Remaining dry with light winds and clear spells. Staying warm and feeling humid overnight with temperatures only slowly falling. Some low cloud perhaps moving into southwestern coasts. Minimum Temperature 18C.
Monday: Hot again for some, with sunny spells. However cloud will build with showers and thunderstorms possibly developing. Torrential downpours, frequent lightning and hail are possible, although many parts staying dry. Maximum Temperature 33C.
Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday: Cloudier, cooler and breezier Tuesday and Wednesday, with outbreaks of rain and heavy thundery showers. These easing Thursday with variable cloud, sunny spells, light winds and temperatures near normal.

The National Maritime Operations Centre (NMOC) based Fareham handles all operations in the area from Sussex, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Dorset and Devon. They also assist other authorities such as the Police, Fire and Ambulance with their specialist expertise. The centre is manned 24x7 and has helicopters, based at rescue bases in Portland or Lee-On-Solent, at their disposal.
