What's the story here?

Lymington Yacht Haven is a large-scale premier marina on the southern edge of Lymington, a small historic market and harbour town. The town is situated within the Solent, about three miles northeast of Hurst Point, at the mouth of the Lymington River, which flows into the north side of the Solent through a salt marsh. It is the first marina encountered to port, immediately behind the southern wave screen on the west side of the river, less than ½ mile inside the entrance.




Lymington Yacht Haven provides top-tier facilities as one of the Solent's premier marinas. The marina features 2.5 metres of depth, over 475 berths, and 100 visitor berths, accommodating vessels up to 30 metres (100ft). Additionally, it features dry berthing, secure boat storage, and RIB storage. It also hosts visiting yachts in vacant berths owned by resident holders while the holders are away. Visitors can avail themselves of a 10% discount by booking and paying for 7 or more consecutive nights in advance. Registered sailing schools can also claim a 20% discount for stays between Sunday and Thursday (excluding July, August, and Bank Holidays).




Lymington is accessible to most leisure vessels at all stages of the tide, although it is not an excessively deep harbour. The construction of a causeway in the eighteenth century diminished the river's scouring effect, resulting in shallowing. The constant movement of the ferries helps maintain the lower channel's minimum depth at 2.4 metres chart datum, up to the entrance at Lymington Yacht Haven.

How to get in?

The Western Approaches to The Solent and coastline encountered on the run-up to Southampton provides shoreline guidance and a tidal timer. Directions for the Lymington River are supplied in the Lymington Harbour entry.

The entrance to Lymington Yacht Haven is located on the port (western) side, immediately inside the harbour entrance behind the southern wave screen on the west side of the river. By night, it has leading lights, inline on 244° T, both fixed orange.

What facilities are available?

The pontoons provide power and water. All domestic requirements, including ice, Wi-Fi, a launderette and a new washroom, are available within the marina area. Diesel and unleaded petrol, including gas cylinders, are available at the fuel dock on the sea wall in front of the marina office. Outgoing mail may be left at the marina reception for collection on weekdays. The marina provides general waste disposal and full recycling facilities. Arrangements can be made for the disposal of waste oil.

The marina has a fully serviced boatyard with boat-hoist services. There is a chandlery on site and a wide range of specialist services, from rigging and marine electronics to GRP repairs, cosmetic work, and engineering. Almost any conceivable repair, maintenance item or refit a vessel could require can be attended to here or within the town area. There is a choice of three large, well-stocked chandlers in the town itself.

Excellent provisioning is available within a 20-minute walk of the marina at Waitrose, Tesco and M&S on Lymington's high street. Several banks are also close by, with ATMs. The high street has hosted a market every Saturday since its first charter in the 13th Century. The market offers a variety of stalls, including fresh fruit and veg, fresh bread, meat, clothing and miscellaneous gifts. The town has a host of coffee shops, public houses and restaurants on the high street, many of which offer free Wi-Fi. Lymington Town Sailing Club welcomes visiting yachtsmen to the Solent Room, with its extensive views over the western Solent. Royal Lymington Yacht Club welcomes visitors, using sail or power, from RYA-recognised clubs.

There is a regular half-hourly train service from Lymington Pier and Town station to Brockenhurst. Brockenhurst is a mainline station serving the South Coast, with fast trains to London Waterloo Station. Southampton and Bournemouth International Airports are approximately 40 minutes away by road.

A very useful hourly summer Beach Bus runs from the Lymington Saltwater Baths, stopping at popular attractions such as Lepe Country Park, Exbury Gardens, and the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu, before terminating at the Hythe Ferry. National Express operates coaches from Woking train station to Heathrow Airport, London, with 'normally' a half-hourly service. There are a variety of tour bus services operating around the Lymington area.

Berthon Lymington Marina (as above). Affectionately known locally as the "Lymington Marina Refueller," it is incredibly easy to access because it’s located right on the outer edge of the marina, directly on the main Lymington River channel, at the end of C-Pier, opposite the Wightlink Ferry terminal. Because it's on the main channel, no tight marina manoeuvres are required to get alongside. It opens daily at 08:15. Closing times vary by season.

Any security concerns?

The marina is manned 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and regular patrols check on all boats. Access to the pontoon bridges, the shower blocks and the main berth holders’ car park is via security key fobs issued at the marina desk. CCTV surveillance exists throughout the marina area.
