Tidal currents are moderate in Southampton Water but very strong in The Solent. The Solent’s tide rises for about six hours and then ‘Stands’, or has a ‘Double High Water’ for a further three hours. Southampton Water havens experience a ‘young flood stand' that is very pronounced on Springs. The ‘young flood stand' begins at approximately LW+0130 where the tidal stream slackens until approximately LW+0300 before a final surge to the three hour ‘Stand’.
