How to get in?

Weymouth Marina is an extensive modern marina located in the Inner Harbour of the seaside town of Weymouth. It is set into a large protected inner harbour area, originally known as The Backwater, and located immediately above the double bascule Town Bridge that lifts to provide access.

The modern purpose built marina has 300 berths of which 25 - 40 are designated visitor berths. Depths vary from 2.5 to 1.75 metres CD and with prior arrangement it can accommodate yachts of up to 16 metres (53 feet) in length. The controlling depth for the harbour is 5.2 metres CD in the approach channel and up to the Ro-Ro Terminal. From there it descends gradually to about 2.2 CD metres within 60 metres of the Town Bridge. After the bridge, the channel has 2.5 metres.




There is no need to pre-book a berth in Weymouth Marina but visitors should contact the marina office whilst approaching in open waters, P: +44 1305 767576 or VHF Ch. 80 call sign [Weymouth Marina], so that a suitable berth may be made ready. The marina welcomes group bookings from clubs and class associations. Groups of 8 or more boats berthing overnight will receive a 10% discount. These bookings must be made in advance by calling the above number or E: berths@weymouthmarina.co.uk. Advance booking is highly recommended during the Pommery Dorset Seafood Festival in July, or during the Weymouth Carnival in August, as these are popular events.

Mooring fees per night, for 2017, are £3.20 per metre incl. VAT.

Weymouth Town Bridge is a car and pedestrian crossing that is operated by Weymouth Harbourmaster, P: +44 1305 838423 or VHF Ch 12. The bridge provides a passage width of 24.4 and 2.5 metres of overhead clearance. Boats with little airdraft may be able to pass under the bridge, utilising a clearance height gauge provided at the side, but larger vessels will have to wait for a scheduled opening.




The bridge is opened every two hours between 0800 and 1800; at 8 am, 10 am, 12 noon, 2 pm, 4 pm, 6 pm, 8 pm with an additional last lift at 9 pm during June, July and August. Marina waiting pontoons are located above and below the bridge and they may be freely used by visiting boats.




Once through the bridge follow the channel as it turns to starboard and continues northward passing pontoons just beyond the bridge that belong to Weymouth Council. Weymouth Marina will then be found at the head of the channel, at the north end of the inner harbour.

Why visit here?

Weymouth Marina is one of five marinas owned and operated by Dean & Reddyhoff. These include the nearby marina at Portland along with East Cowes, Deacons and Haslar. The company provides its berth holders with 21 free overnight visits a year subject to availability, and unlimited free day visits between its various sites which makes it attractive to its berth holders.


Tucked away well upriver and up behind the town, the marina could be best described as a hurricane hole. A comfortable night’s sleep is guaranteed here in all conditions and it makes an ideal retreat point from the outer harbour in strong east to northeast winds that send in an uncomfortable swell. It is also a much quieter berth than what can be expected in the outer harbour with its constant coming and goings and various rafting arrangements.



The marina provides more convenient access to the shops and beach of this historic town, covered in the Weymouth Harbour entry, with the benefit of its excellent facilities immediately to hand. With a mainline station just five minutes’ walk away, it also offers the ideal place to safely leave a boat for a few days.

What facilities are available?

As with Weymouth Harbour. Water and electricity are available on all pontoons. The marina offers excellent shower and toilet facilities, Wi-Fi, and a heavy-duty launderette.
