How to get in?

Portsmouth Marine Engineering is a small marina based at the head of Fareham Lake at the northwest end of Portsmouth Harbour about 4½ miles above its entrance. It is situated on the lower town quay of the historic market town of Fareham.

The marina has 130 pontoon berths that dry to 0.6 metres. Its approaches also dry ½ a mile below. It cannot, therefore, receive fin keels and is only suitable for yachts that can take to the hard. The marina can receive boats between 5 (16ft.) to 12 metres (40ft.) that can take to the hard and are prepared to work the tides.

The marina holds no specific visitor berths and accommodates visiting yachts in the berths of resident holders who are away. It is therefore advisable to make berthing arrangements in advance by contacting the yard on P: +44 1329 232854 or if unavailable the office P: +44 1329 288221.

Convergance Point The Solent and Isle of Wight Route location coastal description provides approach details. Approaches to Portsmouth Harbour and its entry can be found in the Gunwharf Quays Marina Click to view haven entry. The run-up Fareham Lake and approaches to Portsmouth Marine Engineering is described for Fareham Marina Click to view haven that is situated 300 metres above.

Haven location The marina comprises a single 250-metre long pontoon that runs parallel to the western shore. It has finger berths on either side. Berth as directed by the yard manager.

Why visit here?
Portsmouth Marine Engineering is a privately owned boatyard situated on Fareham’s historic quays.

Thes boatyard has storage facilities for about 30 boats and approximately 130 pontoon moorings. The well-established business has a very friendly and pleasant manager and it provides an ideal berth from which to visit the historic market town of Fareham detailed in the Fareham Marina entry Click to view haven.

What facilities are available?
The marina's capabilities are limited to providing water, showers and toilets ashore and a crane that can lift up to 10 tons. Storage for up to 35 craft with metered shore electrics is available ashore. There is a chandlery next door and marine engine sales/repairs. Although there are no yard services most issues can be resolved by specialists in and around the area.

Fareham town provides extensive provisioning capabilities, bars and restaurants, and includes a new large scale Tesco all within a short walk. The town is well served by road and rail networks. The M27 motorway passes around the northern edge, and is the main traffic artery into and out of the area. The A32 passes through Fareham at the Quay Street roundabout, a notorious bottleneck, on its way from Gosport to Wickham. Fareham railway station is on the West Coastway Line, with regular services to Portsmouth, Southampton, Brighton, Cardiff and London. Bus transport in the town is provided by First Hampshire & Dorset, which runs nearly all bus routes. Services run as far as Winchester. The bus station is adjacent to the Market Quay development.

Any security concerns?
The pontoon is accessed by a personal security key.
