Extending the lives and serviceability of padlocks on a boat

What is the issue?
General purpose padlocks are subject to harsh conditions on boats causing them to corrode and seize.

Why address this?
The harsh marine environment will reduce a padlocks serviceable life and when once seized it is a challenge to unlock or remove it.

How to address this?
Cut away a plastic bottle to create a cover as illustrated below. Slide the cover over the lock when leaving the vessel for any duration so that it keeps the water out.

Using a cover in conjunction with regular silicon water repellent type lubricant will help a padlock deliver problem free service for many years.
