Adding storage for crew members clothes and personal items

What is the issue?
Yachts are highly space restricted and when crews come aboard they bring a quantity of personal items that require individual storage space. Personal item storage can often be hard to come by without consuming usable vessel space.

Why address this?
Maximising every cubic inch of space on a yacht is critical and particularly so with crews. Human beings are particularly territorial and this is amplified in constrained environments such as in yachts. If crew members cannot be allocated a specific place to store their belongings which is theirs and theirs alone and easily accessible, it will cause discord.

How to address this?
A good solution to add clothes storage is to use, or specifically tailor, duffel bags that can be attached above a crew member's berth via turn buttons.

Good positioning of the bags will allow use of the deeper part of the berth, and the natural v-shape of the vessel, to carry the bags outward so that the bag does not hang in usable berth space. Likewise, the bags are easily detached by unturning the buckles and they can fold away in a small space when not required.

Tailoring the bags specifically for the vessel and matching the fabric to the vessel's upholstery can make the duffel bags look like a natural part of the fittings. Try to use a fabric that is resistant to mildew, plastic zips should be sturdy, and all rings and turn-buttons should be made of stainless steel.

A photograph is worth a thousand words. We are always looking for bright sunny photographs that illustrate this experience. If you have some images that we could use please upload them here. All we need to know is how you would like to be credited for your work and a brief description of the image if it is not readily apparent. If you would like us to add a hyperlink from the image that goes back to your site please include the desired link and we will be delighted to that for you.
