What is the issue?
Boat hooks are unwieldy and difficult to store on a yacht, particularly so the traditional strong and durable wooden boathook. Although more convenient, telescopic boat hooks which are available are not good for continuous or challenging use.Why address this?
If you have a mooring that continually requires the use of a boathook, having it available in a safe and convenient location will make sure it is ready to hand when needed and avoid crew continually tripping over it or it being lost overboard because it is laying about.How to address this?
Set in place a pair of mounting fittings for the boathook and attach them to a cap shroud or backstay as set out below.

The fittings are made from stainless steel rings welded to ‘bulldog grips’, sometimes alternatively known as ‘wire grips’ as below.

The bottom ring should be a snug fit for the head of the boathook to help it sit securely in place when fastened down by a tight loop of shock cord. The top eye ring should be made of a larger ring to make it easier to thread the top end of the boathook's handle through it from deck level.
