A simple approach to picking up moorings

What is the issue?
Picking up moorings can present a challenge, particularly so if tried single handed.

Why address this?
Picking up moorings single handed can present a real problem. It involves a lot of dashing back and forth from cockpit to bow and can be tricky in crowded waters. With crew it is equally challenging as it is a prime time to loose a crew member overboard.

How to address this?
Bring the bow of the boat up to the mooring buoy and simply drop a lasso over the moorings as presented in figure 1.
A non buoyant warp will immediately sink around the buoy. As the boat falls back the lasso pulls straight closing in underneath the buoy effectively turning it into a large toggle that holds the vessel in place. Once lassoed the crew or single hander can pick up the moorings properly at their leisure. If conditions are light and it is a brief stop just sitting lassoed is equally fine until ready to cast off. This can be achieved by simply releasing one side of the lasso, falling back, and pulling in the line.
