Numerals represent [mean neap, mean spring] rates in tenths of a knot. For example the numbers 12,23 would indicate a mean neap of 1.2 knots and a mean spring of 2.3 knots.

Today: A cloudy start for many. Cloud will retreat back towards the east coast, where it will remain mostly cloudy and cool throughout the day. Dry with sunny spells elsewhere. Warm or very warm inland, especially in the south and west. Maximum Temperature 25C.
Tonight: Cloud will spread back in from the North Sea overnight, although with some uncertainty, mainly into northern areas. Dry with clear skies elsewhere. Minimum Temperature 12C.
Saturday: Any low cloud quickly clearing to leave a fine and mostly dry day with plenty of sunshine. Very warm or locally hot. Chance of heavy showers or thunderstorms developing later. Maximum Temperature 31C.

Coastguard on VHF Channel 16 and this should only be used for distress and urgency calls. Most coastal areas have a good phone signal making it possible to dial 999 or 112 and ask for the coastguard. HM Coastguards Solent area ‘Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre’ MRCC is situated at Lee-on-Solent; MMSI is 002320011. The centre is manned 24x7 and has a rescue helicopter at its disposal. They keep a watch on VHF Ch 16 and also Ch 67 that can be used for routine communications. Solent Coastguard broadcasts a weather forecast on Ch 86 and Ch 23 once an initial announcement has been made on Ch 16.
Whilst operating in the Solent it is advisable to maintain a radio watch on the port working frequency of Channel 12 used by Southampton Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) and shipping. Every 2 hours from 0610-2210 there will be a broadcast on Channel 14, pre-empted by a transmission on Channel 12, giving information on large ship movements, local weather conditions and any new Navigational Warnings.
